The Woman Behind the Lens

Behind the Camera

The girl with the Polaroids, all grown up.

Hi, I’m Amber — the photographer behind A Touch of Amber Photography.

Long before I had a DSLR, I was obsessed with Polaroids. I had photos everywhere, constantly rearranging my bulletin board and finding new places for the moments I wanted to keep. When I got my first digital camera as a teenager, that fascination with capturing life followed me.

I’ve always loved the idea that a photograph can hold onto something that would otherwise slip away. A fleeting expression, a familiar face, the way the light fell on an ordinary afternoon. Moments that might not seem extraordinary while we’re living them, but become the very things we wish we could revisit later.

That love eventually grew into a photography hobby that lasted from around 2012 to 2018. I started by photographing friends, pets, and pieces of my own life, eventually moving behind the camera to photograph other people. One of my favorite things has always been seeing someone fall in love with their images — whether they choose one as their profile picture or give it a place on the walls of their home. Knowing a photograph I’ve created becomes part of someone else’s story will always mean something to me.

What Catches My Eye

My style lives somewhere between light and airy and moody and atmospheric. I’m drawn to golden-hour light, fog drifting through the trees, wild landscapes, star-filled skies, and the quiet beauty of places that hold traces of the past.

I love photographing people and the natural world alike. There’s something beautiful about genuine connection, but there’s also something compelling about an abandoned place slowly being reclaimed by nature or a landscape transformed by changing light.

I’m especially drawn to the fleeting moments of childhood — the little expressions, everyday adventures, and tiny details that change before we’re ready for them to. As a mother, I know how quickly those seasons pass. One day, something is simply part of your everyday life; before you know it, it’s something you wish you could experience just once more.

Whether I’m photographing a person, exploring somewhere wild, or noticing a quiet detail that might otherwise go unseen, I’m always looking for that feeling: the beauty tucked inside a moment that won’t last forever.

A Few Things About Me

Outside of photography, I’m a stargazer, a lover of fog, black loose-leaf tea, and a good ghost story. My comfort show is Unsolved Mysteries, and I have a soft spot for the mysterious, the atmospheric, and the places that make you wonder about the stories they could tell.

I tend to find beauty in unexpected places. I’m drawn to the old, the overlooked, and the things that don’t need to be perfect to be worth noticing. Maybe that’s part of why photography has always felt so natural to me: it gives me a reason to slow down and pay attention.

I don’t think every meaningful photograph needs a grand occasion behind it. Sometimes the magic is in the ordinary — the way someone looks at the person they love, a child’s unguarded laughter, or the light settling over a place you’ve visited a hundred times.

Sometimes, you just have to notice.

A Little Detour Called Motherhood

For a while, life took me in a different direction.

Becoming a mother changed my world in ways I could never have fully anticipated. After years of hoping for this chapter of my life, I wanted to be present for it — to soak up the little moments, learn who my daughter was becoming, and embrace the everyday magic of raising her.

Photography took a back seat, not because I stopped loving it, but because my heart and attention were needed elsewhere. And sometimes, the things we love wait patiently for us while life unfolds.

Now, with my youngest around two and life looking a little different, I’m finding my way back to photography. It feels exciting, a little nerve-racking, and surprisingly familiar — like reconnecting with a part of myself that was never really gone.

I’m returning with more life behind me, a different perspective, and the same desire that started it all: to capture the moments that matter before they become memories.

Let’s Make Something Worth Keeping

If there’s one thing I hope you take away from my work, it’s that you don’t have to be a model, know how to pose, or feel completely comfortable in front of a camera to deserve photographs you love.

My approach is laid-back and gently encouraging. I want the experience to feel natural, not intimidating. We’ll find our rhythm, make room for the in-between moments, and focus on creating images that feel meaningful to you.

I hope that years from now, when you look at your photographs, you’re transported back. Not just to what a moment looked like, but to what it felt like — the people who were there, the season of life you were in, and all the little details you might otherwise have forgotten.

We can’t stop time. Children grow, seasons change, and life keeps moving.

But we can preserve a little piece of it.

Thank you for being here and for taking the time to get to know me. I’m glad you’re here, and I’d love to help you capture something worth keeping.
